Best in Show
Sadly, the judge elect for the In Show awards had to withdraw at the last minute, so I was asked to step in, which I was honoured to do.
The two breed judges, Jenny Miller (Smooths) and Karen Kennedy (Roughs), had sent through some super dogs for me to assess.
Best in Show went to Wray-Ramsden’s Rough Collie Bel Ch Takhisis Lady of Mystery BW24/25. This is a very well-balanced girl with a fitted coat. Beautiful head and expression and well-constructed. She presents a lovely picture and moves well, covering the ground easily.
Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show went to the Smooth Collie, Hayward and Norman’s Ch Wynele Double Trouble at Foxearth. At not yet three years old, he still has to fully mature, I feel. Very elegant outline with super reach of neck. Head properties are very pleasing. Needs to strengthen in hindquarters and his rear movement was rather loose.
Best Puppy in Show went to Roberts’ Afterhero Nutcracker. A very promising youngster with a good head and pleasing expression. Well angulated and presents a lovely picture with his super reach of neck. Moved really well. He beat the Smooth puppy, Blamorder Sunny Side Up, owned by Llewellyn and Lusty, on maturity. She too is very promising but needing time, which of course she has on her side.
Two fantastic eleven-year-olds came forward for Best Veteran in Show, with the nod going to the Smooth, Eke’s Ch Foxearth Flag Day. In fantastic condition and has lost none of his qualities. Super head and the best of expressions, lovely reach of neck, well angulated and correct body proportions. Moved out easily.
