SMOOTH COLLIE OF THE YEAR

The event starts with judging for the Smooth Collie Puppy of the Year. The puppies qualify for invitation by winning Best Puppy Dog or Best Puppy Bitch at Championship Shows where Challenge Certificates were on offer for the breed in the preceding January to December. The judge chooses a Best Puppy and Reserve Best Puppy but the decision is kept secret until after judging for the Smooth Collie of the Year.

The veterans qualify for invitation by winning Best Veteran Dog or Best Veteran Bitch at a Championship show where Challenge Certificates are on offer for the breed in the preceding January to December. They also qualify if they have won a Challenge Certificate or Reserve Challenge Certificate as a Veteran in the preceding January to December. The judge chooses a Best Veteran and Reserve Best Veteran but the decision is kept secret until after judging for the Smooth Collie of the year.

Smooth Collie of the Year (SCOTY)

The competition is open by invitation to dogs and bitches owned by members of the Smooth Collie Club of Great Britain who qualified by winning a Challenge Certificate or Reserve Challenge Certificate during the previous show year (January to December).

There are three invited judges, one Smooth Collie specialist, one Rough Collie specialist and one all-rounder

First Round (dogs)
The three judges will each examine and move every dog before awarding a mark out of twenty for each exhibit. The cumulative scores will determine which dogs will be BEST DOG, RESERVE BEST DOG and RUNNER-UP TO RESERVE BEST DOG. Scores will be kept secret.

First Round (bitches)
As for the dogs to decide which bitches will be BEST BITCH, RESERVE BEST BITCH and RUNNER-UP TO RESERVE BEST BITCH.

The results are announced after both rounds and then the BEST DOG and BEST BITCH compete against each other for the title of SMOOTH COLLIE OF THE YEAR.
